Well that week two of Fit For Florida done
I have continued to walk everyday with the dog, we get up and out for about 6.15 and walk for about an hour. This means we set off and get back in the dark. On the weekends I have an extra couple of hours in bed this means I am able to top up on vitamin D. This Thursday I had to do an extra 1.5Km as I lost the dog! He was waiting for me under a bridge not able to hear me call him because of the traffic on the motorway above.
This week I have replaced the weight I lost with weights in a rusk sack do I am now carrying an extra 4kg just for the fun of it! This went up to 5kg on Sunday the bag only feels heavy at the start and the end of the walk when taking the rucksack on and off.
I have also this weekend started walking with poles, I have used poles for walking in the mountains for years but this is different I have been trying to walk in the Nordik style. If you believe the hype Nordik walking ie better for you than regular walking. When using the poles for Nordik walking you push with the poles on each stride which means that walking provides an upper body work out that includes the chest, laterals, triceps, biceps, shoulder, abdominals and other core muscles. This in turn increases the heart rate and the hype says Nordic walking has producing a 46% increase in energy consumption, compared to walking without poles! It must be good for you the NHS Choices website has a page about it, http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/fitness/Pages/nordic-walking.aspx
I am going to up the anti next week by making the dog work for his dinner by using him as an outboard motor, I have found out about a new sport Canicross. Canicross is the sport of running with you dog canicross is basically cross country running with your dog pulling you!!!!. It has developed from skijoring, where people ski with their dog pulling out in front of them. I have ordered the dog a pulling harness, which will help him associate that pulling is good with the harness and bad on a collar. The harness will also allow him to pull from the shoulder and this gives him more power.
I have starts using the Endomondo app to monitor and record my progress. This week I have walked 36km that’s 10km more than last week and making a total of 64k since FFF began. This week I have walked for just over 6½ hours making a total of 11½ hours since day one.
I have had only two pints in two weeks and have not eaten any bread or any hard cheese and I have to say that I feel better and am sleeping better. Though the Indian meal I had last night did spoil the no bread as I ate about half a nan! But a nan bread is not like Mothers Pride or Greggs!
I have started parking further away from the office so I have to walk further to the office, and now from next week when I have to go into the office I will either walk to the station from home and train in (standing up on the train) which means a mile walk to the station or park at Eland Road and walk into the city which is two miles! When working in London I am going to walk from Kings Cross to the office near Old Street which is just short of a 2 mile walk.
Lets see what next week brings.
Fit For Florida – the aim is to loose 1lb a week until we fly.
