After a night steam in the morning we arrived at the site we were to spend the first day a sheltered area between Seymour Island and Baltra Island and we were spend a couple of hours on an small sandy Island known as Mosquera in the company of a naturalist named Jorge. The boat was joined by male and female frigate birds and there were petrels flying all around us.
We were welcomed to the island by a groups of juvenile sea lions who came to have a look at the visitors. The island had clearly been visited during the night by Green turtles who had been laying eggs, before heading back to sea. On the rocks we could see Iguanas and Lava Lizards, the ones with red throats are the females. The island also had skeletons of those visitors who never left including several sea lions, a pilot whale and turtle. As we were waiting for the boat back the Galapagos Master a group of Blue footed Boobies in a flying V formation flew overhead.
After a quick dive briefing, we were of for our second check dive! This time we had to demonstrate a negative entry and a SMB launch with safety stop. I am glad to say we all passed with flying colours. The dive was really interesting lots of starfish, reef fish despite there being no reef! There were loads of Scorpion fish quite few Galapagos nudibranchs Natty the guide also says she pointed out a Golden Ray and a Hammer head shark, but the rules are clear no photo we don’t believe you.
